Periodontics & Laser-Assisted Periodontal Therapy
Periodontal disease signs include red, swollen, bleeding gums, receding gums, bone loss, and persistent bad breath. Here at Spring Hills, we treat periodontal disease very seriously and are equipped with the training and technology to help you maintain proper oral health.
Scaling & Root Planing (SRPs):
Scaling and root planing is a deep cleaning below the gumline used to treat gum disease. This deep cleaning has two parts.
Scaling is when your dental professional removes all the plaque and calculus (hardened plaque) above and below the gum line, cleaning the bottom of the pocket. Then your dental professional will begin root planing, smoothing out your teeth’s roots to help your gums reattach to your teeth.
Laser Assisted Periodontal Therapy (LAPT):
Laser Assisted Periodontal Therapy, or LAPT, uses a specific wavelength that targets and destroys diseased tissue and bacteria from periodontal pockets. It is also minimally invasive and nearly painless, making it completely safe and approved by the US FDA.
The precision of the laser allows us to remove only the diseased tissue without harming any of the surrounding gums. It is a significantly more comfortable procedure than traditional periodontal disease treatments.
Listed below are more benefits of receiving a Laser treatment at Spring Hills!
Minimally Invasive
Laser therapy is less invasive than traditional dental techniques.
It allows for more precise and targeted treatment, minimizing damage to surrounding tissues. This can result in less post-operative discomfort and faster healing times.
Reduced Pain and Discomfort
The laser energy helps to seal nerve endings and cauterize blood vessels, leading to less bleeding, swelling, and post-operative pain.
Precise and Controlled Treatment
The laser beam can selectively target the affected area while leaving surrounding healthy tissues intact. This precision is especially advantageous for gum surgeries, cavity preparations, and root canal treatments.
Minimized Bleeding and Swelling
It also minimizes swelling and inflammation, making recovery more comfortable.
