Root canal therapy, or endodontic treatment, is a dental procedure performed to treat and save a tooth that is severely infected, decayed, or injured. The procedure involves removing the infected or damaged pulp from the inside of the tooth, cleaning and disinfecting the area, and then sealing it to prevent further infection.

Overview of Root Canal Therapy

Diagnosis

When a tooth becomes infected or damaged, the first step is a thorough examination by a dentist.

X-rays may be taken to assess the infection’s extent and determine if root canal therapy is necessary.

Local Anesthesia

To ensure patient comfort, the area around the affected tooth is numbed with local anesthesia.

This helps minimize any potential discomfort during the procedure.

Access and Removal

The dentist creates a small access hole in the tooth, usually through the crown, to reach the infected or damaged pulp.

Special instruments carefully remove the infected pulp and clean the root canals.

Disinfection and Shaping

Once the infected pulp is removed, the root canals are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected to eliminate bacteria and debris.

The dentist may shape the canals to facilitate effective filling and sealing.

Filling and Sealing

fter cleaning, the canals are filled with a biocompatible material called gutta-percha. This rubber-like material is placed into the canals to seal them and prevent re-infection. Sometimes, the dentist may also place a temporary filling on the gutta-percha.

Restoration

Since a tooth undergoing root canal therapy can weaken, a dental crown or filling is often placed on the treated tooth to provide strength and protection and restore its functionality. The restoration is typically done at a separate appointment.

Dr. Marena Michael

Dr. Marena Michael

Dr. Michael is from Southern California. She graduated from the University of California, Riverside, where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in sciences in Biology. Dr. Michael obtained her doctorate at the University of Southern California, Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry. She practices general and family dentistry, with an interest in cosmetic dentistry. In addition, she is a member of the ADA & CDA.

Dr. Michael has a strong appreciation for the artistic aspect of dentistry. From cosmetics and restorative procedures to more complicated cases, Dr. Michael enjoys the satisfaction of her patients as they begin to love their smile. Dr. Michael believes that educating her patients is the first step to a healthier mouth, leading to long term benefits and a happier smile.

Dr. Michael lives in Chino with her family. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends and playing and collecting musical instruments.

Dr. James Park

Dr. James Park

Dr. Park was born in New York, NY, and graduated from Rutgers School of Dental Medicine. He obtained his doctorate at the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine. His residency was at Hackensack University Medical Center in Hackensack, NJ.

Dr. Park is deeply passionate about caring for your oral health. By educating our patients and helping patients understand how to best care for their teeth and gums, Dr. Park works alongside you to prevent dental issues before they arise. He ensures that each patient feels heard and valued by custom creating a treatment plan that is best suited for his patients and informs you the best way to move forward with his treatments.

Dr. Park lives in the Inland Empire with his wife and one dog and enjoys hiking and swimming. His hobbies include being outdoors, playing board games, and various sports.

Dr. Taraneh Nouri

Dr. Taraneh Nouri

Dr. Taraneh Nouri graduated from the University of Hamburg in Germany in 2014. When Dr. Nouri moved to the United States, she went to get certified through the Loma Linda School of Dentistry in 2019.

Dr. Nouri is passionate about helping patients achieve and maintain proper oral health. Through building relationships and trust with her patients she understands that many individuals have dental anxiety or fear. To reassure our patients, Dr. Nouri is determined to put your comfort at the top of the list by going over each diagnosis and treatment. Seeing patients leave with a happier and healthier is what she strives for.

Dr. Nouri loves to bake, do oil painting, and do interior design in her free time. Dr. Nouri speaks English, Farsi, and German. She currently lives in Redlands with her husband, who also practices dentistry.

Dr. Lalisa Yaowarattana

Dr. Lalisa Yaowarattana

Dr. Lalisa attended the USC School of Dentistry and graduated in the top 5% of her class. She has been practicing dentistry since 2000 and completes over 200 units of continuing education each year to keep her skills and practice up to date.

Dr. Lalisa’s professional membership includes the Fellowship of the Academy of General Dentistry. In which only 7% of the general dentist achieve this honor. As well as many other excellent groups:

● California Dental Association
● Tri-county Dental Society, and
● American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.

Her commitment to dentistry is personified through the dedication and passion she has for caring for her patients. Dr. Lalisa does not stray away from achieving the best results by using the newest dental technology as well as her continued education.

Dr. Lalisa and her husband have three children: Tanya, Tara, and Tanner. Dr. Lalisa enjoys camping, reading, spending time with her family, and volunteering in her community.
